THE HISTORY AND START OF THE NORTH ELK KENNEL

The Restucci Family; Marty, Sandy, Jennifer and David, moved from Delaware County, Pennsylvania in 1993 to settle in Cecil County, Maryland, near Elkton and the Elk River.

We purchased a  half Black Labrador  and half Chesapeake Bay retriever named Chelsea. The family loved her and of course everywhere we went Chelsea went. Chelsea developed Lime’s Disease and is no longer with us.

Our next purchase, our first   purebred Chesapeake, was made in 1999. The family journeyed to Kennet Square, Pennsylvania.   We selected “North Elk Kayla May” from a smaller blood line. Her name means “Keeper”.  Kayla is just that. She watches the house and the people that enter. Kayla is a doll and we all love her.

The following year (2000) another journey was made to Evansville, Indiana. There, in Evansville, we purchased our first male. He was named “North Elk Casey Martin” after the mighty “Casey At The Bat”. The Martin name means “Warrior”. He was of hunting stock. He is of larger bloodline, which is called the “Big Sailor Line”. He is our mighty warrior but he must mind when in the house with Kayla.

Next, in 2001,  we journeyed to the Classic Kennel in Shenandoah, Virginia. Here we purchased “North Elk Classic Katie Lynn”. She has drive. What a handful!

During the year 2005 we bred Casey and Katie. They produced 11 puppies of which four did not survive. We have three puppies from this litter; Hannah Lyn, Heidi Lyn and Fonzie Martin all with the “North Elk” Kennel.

North Elk Hanna Lyn is in training for her Junior Hunter rating. North Elk Fonzie Martin, this spring, is running for his Master Hunter.

We also have a littermate at Mount Arrat Farm in Port Deposit called North Elk Wesley. He is running for his Senior hunter this spring.  We are waiting the outcome of North Elk Katie Lyn’s Junior Hunting Training.

The next litter will be in May 2008.
